  • March 25 – Independence Day. On March 25, 1821, the beginning of Greece’s eleven-year struggle for independence from the Ottoman Empire. It ended in 1832 with the signing of the Constantinople Peace Treaty, which established the independent Kingdom of Greece.
  • October 28 – “No!” Day. On October 28, Greece celebrates its national holiday. The day is associated with the country’s rejection of the ultimatum set by Italy. Italy wants Greece to allow the Axis powers to invade the country and occupy strategic positions. Otherwise, war would have been declared. Greek dictator Ioannis Metaxas refuses to admit the Axis powers. As a result of his refusal, the Italian troops located on the territory of Albania attacked Greece and thus it entered the Second World War.
